How Do I Make My Air Filter Cleaner?
Figuring out how to clean an air filter takes a little time, but it’s not complicated. Feel free to stop by the Fisher Auto parts department to pick up supplies and ask any questions you may have!
- Find the Air Filter: The air filter is located inside a housing, so you’ll need a screwdriver or wrench to set it free. Be careful when removing the filter, and try to avoid shaking debris into the intake.
- Remove Loose Debris: Once the air filter has been removed, hold it over a trash can and shake the debris loose for an initial cleaning.
- Vacuum the Filter: Next, grab a vacuum cleaner to sweep away the smaller particles trapped in the filter.
- Apply Air Filter Cleaner: Now apply an air filter cleaner according to the instructions on the package. If you don’t want to buy a cleaner, you can make your own with a 2:1 ratio of water and laundry soap. Mix and spray onto the filter.
- Scrub with a Brush: Gently scrub the filter with a soft brush, like a toothbrush, to get into all the crevices.
- Rinse Thoroughly & Dry: Rinse out the solution and shake the filter. Let it drip dry upside down, and avoid adding any heat to accelerate the process.
- Reassemble the Filter: Place the air filter back into the housing and use your screwdriver or wrench to reassemble everything.
Does the Cabin Air Filter Affect AC & Air Quality?
One common question we hear from our Denver and Broomfield, Colorado customers is “Does a cabin air filter affect AC and air quality?” The answer is yes. A clogged air filter can disrupt airflow inside the cabin. That means your air conditioning system can’t effectively cool your vehicle. It also means that your air quality can drop since the cabin lacks proper ventilation. The result is stale air, lingering odors, and dust accumulation.
