When the oil isn’t changed, engine debris will begin to mix with the oil, and over time the oil in the car will start to break down. The more you drive your car and the harsher the driving conditions are, your oil will wear down more quickly and thus, needs to be changed more often. An oil change is simply replacing dirty oil with clean oil in order to keep your vehicle in top working order.
All vehicles will need to have their oil changed regularly. What does regularly mean?  Most of the oil companies are recommending vehicle owners have their oil changed every 3,000 miles or every three to six months regardless of what kind of driving conditions.  A vehicle with a new engine that has little or no wear can most likely get by on the oil changed every 7,500 miles. However, as time goes by and the engine miles increase, the oil will need to be changed more often.

Here is how to tell if your vehicle is in need of an oil change:

• If the oil is black or brown in color, it is likely time to have it changed.
• If it is more of a light yellow or amber color, most likely you will be good for another few thousand miles.

Checking the color of the oil will be your best indicator of when is in need of an oil change rather than going by a certain number of miles.
